CNA: Mark Gevisser in discussion with Edwin Cameron

In the early 1990s, Mark and Edwin co-edited the pathbreaking book, Defiant Desire: Gay and Lesbian Lives in South Africa. They have been friends and comrades ever since. Edwin’s career as a human rights lawyer and on the bench as a Constitutional Court justice, and his  profile as an openly gay HIV-positive man, have made him one of South Africa’s most important public intellectuals. He writes of The Pink Line that it is “an engrossing and unforgettable book - one that treats its subjects with profound respect, but never forgets that at base our common struggle, queer or straight, is to find our own way to be sufficiently human.”
